The crust is the thinnest layer of earth ranging from 5 to 100 km. thick. The crust is the outer most layer of the earth and is the part we live on. The curst is a solid piece of rock the floats on the lithosphere or the outer most layer of the mantel and is laso the thinnest. the mantel is the largest layer of earth and makes up about 67% of earths mass. The mantel consists of molten rock or magma so the crust can float on it. Also inside the mantel is the Asthenosphere or the 2nd largest part of the mantel and the mesosphere which is the larget part of the mantel. Then there is the inner and outer core. The core makes up about 33% of the earths mass. the cores are solid dense masses in the center of earth. There are 10 main Tectonic Plates. these are the largest plates. The plates fit together like a giant puzzle. Supposedly the plates once fit together and made one super continent called Pangea. NOTE: this is only a hypothesis.
